I’ve been in the kitchen for a little over 10 years, with my first kitchen job being a dishwasher for a small breakfast spot in Boone, NC while I was going to Appalachian State University. I fell in love with cooking when I lived in my very first apartment, where I had the ability to actually cook for myself. I loved trying out new foods that I did not get to eat growing up.
I received my Bachelors of Science in International Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science and really fell into the restaurant life more intensely when I was going through the hiring processes with different police departments down and around Charlotte, NC.
I’ve worked at restaurants ranging from chains like Chilis and Bravo to fine dining like Mancys Steakhouse. Working at Firebirds Woodfire Grill is what really made me fall in love with cooking and Mancys Steakhouse is where I really learned different techniques and skills in the kitchen, as well as the different ways to analyze situations and ingredients.
I love working on my fish tanks, hanging out with my girlfriend and her daughter and doing stuff with my two dogs when I’m not at work. I am hoping to take SAME Cafe Toledo to another level so we can create a next level of community involvement, both with ourselves and with everyone else with the food I can provide.

Joni Johnson is a Reiki Master, Yoga and dance teacher, photographer, journalist and community weaver. SAME Cafe is yet another opportunity to explore complex community conversations, asking and living the necessary questions for a valuable life. Her mission is to continue the quest of deep learning, empathetic listening, and to explore growth as a leader and a sincere, loving community member.
